Aligning Outcomes, Assessments, & Activities

Within the framework of Fink's Integrated Course Design, this six-session instructional program aims to achieve a transformative goal, aligning closely with Fink's emphasis on overarching course goals (Fink, 2013). This program seeks to enable teachers to proficiently integrate the Seesaw Digital Learning platform into their curriculum, thereby redefining their teaching practices and fostering a dynamic and inclusive learning environment (Fink, 2013).

The structured learning goals, informed by Fink's framework, cover foundational knowledge, application, integration, human dimensions, caring, and learning-how-to-learn (Fink, 2013). These goals are pursued through carefully scaffolded learning activities over six sessions, aligning with Fink's principles for creating a coherent and progressive learning experience. Formative assessments, including quizzes, portfolio assessments, and peer reviews, are strategically designed to measure the achievement of these learning goals, in accordance with Fink's recommendations for ongoing assessment and feedback (Fink, 2013).

In direct alignment with Fink's vision for active and applied learning experiences, this course places a particular emphasis on connecting Seesaw to project-based learning within a blended learning environment. Teachers are not only expected to acquire technical skills related to Seesaw but are also encouraged to apply this knowledge in the creation of comprehensive learning modules, directly mirroring Fink's call for authentic and transformative learning experiences (Fink, 2013).

The culminating project, situated within the principles of project-based learning, requires teachers to showcase the real-world application of Seesaw activities, emphasizing critical thinking, collaboration, and practical knowledge application—a pedagogical approach that seamlessly aligns with Fink's view on the importance of preparing learners for the complexities of the digital age (Fink, 2013). Furthermore, this integration serves the broader educational goal of preparing students for the challenges and opportunities of the future, reinforcing Fink's perspective on the significance of forward-looking educational practices (Fink, 2013).

The course outcomes planning process and the three colummn planning process impacts by innovation plan by supporting the development of a unit to progressively build teachers' knowledge and skills, moving from the foundational aspects of Seesaw to more advanced features and integration into their teaching practices. The emphasis is on practical application, collaboration, and ongoing reflection to ensure that teachers are not only familiar with the platform but are also able to effectively leverage its capabilities in their teaching. This unit plan provides a structured approach to help teachers gradually build their skills and confidence in using the Seesaw Digital Learning platform. The combination of modeling, hands-on activities, collaborative projects, and assessments ensures a comprehensive learning experience.

Fink's 3 Column Table is a useful framework for designing significant learning experiences. The table consists of three columns: "Learning Goals," "Activities," and "Assessment." In the context of teaching teachers how to use the Seesaw Digital Learning platform, here's a suggested unit plan over a duration of 6 sessions.  This was developed through the use of 2 planning worksheets to thoughtfully think through the learning experience.
